Brass scrap

Brass scrap consists of recycled or discarded brass materials, primarily composed of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), with varying amounts of other metals depending on the grade. It is widely used for re-melting and manufacturing new brass products. The scrap may come in different forms, including pipes, sheets, turnings, rods, and mixed metal scrap.

Specifications vary depending on the type and composition of the scrap. Below are general parameters:

  • Copper (Cu) Content: 58% – 80% (varies by grade)
  • Zinc (Zn) Content: Remainder after copper content
  • Impurities:
    • Lead (Pb): ≤ 3%
    • Iron (Fe): ≤ 0.5%
    • Tin (Sn): ≤ 1%
    • Aluminum (Al): ≤ 0.5%
  • Common Grades of Brass Scrap:
    • Honey: Mixed brass solids, including pipes, rods, and sheets
    • Pallu: Brass scrap from plumbing fixtures
    • Ocean: Brass turnings and shavings from machining
    • Ebony: Composition brass with lower copper content
  • Form: Sheets, pipes, rods, turnings, or mixed solids
  • Moisture Content: ≤ 2%
  • Packaging: Bales, drums, or loose bulk
