Aluminium dross

Product Detail

Aluminium dross

Aluminium dross is a by-product generated during the melting, refining, and casting of aluminium. It consists of a mixture of aluminium metal, aluminium oxides, and other impurities. Dross is typically skimmed from the surface of molten aluminium in foundries and smelters. It is further processed to recover aluminium metal content and used in various industries such as metal recovery, cement production, and chemical applications.

Specifications:

Specifications vary based on the type and aluminium content. Below are general parameters:

  • Aluminium (Al) Content: 30% – 80% (depending on processing and source).
  • Oxide Content: Al₂O₃ 20% – 60%
  • Impurities:
    • Iron (Fe): ≤ 1%
    • Silicon (Si): ≤ 1.5%
    • Magnesium (Mg): ≤ 1%
    • Lead (Pb): ≤ 0.05%
    • Zinc (Zn): ≤ 0.5%
  • Physical Form: Powder, granules, or lumps.
  • Moisture Content: ≤ 3%
  • Packaging: Bulk, jumbo bags, or loose in containers.

Types of Aluminium Dross:

  1. White Dross: Contains a high percentage of metallic aluminium (50% – 80%). It can be processed to recover aluminium metal.
  2. Black Dross: Has a lower aluminium content (30% – 50%) and contains more oxides and impurities. Used in secondary applications like cement manufacturing and mineral processing.
